RIM's BlackBerry 8800 launched
If you weren't paying attention these last few months, RIM has been working on a new full-QWERTY BlackBerry, which is finally here: the 8800. Expect the 0.55-inch thick device on Cingular, er, AT&T, this month with quad-band EDGE (blah), a QVGA display, GPS, a microSD slot, Bluetooth 2.0, scroll ball, and a relatively uncomfortable looking keyboard. Still no word on price or an exact date, but we're sure you've got a pretty decent ballpark in your head for what this thing's going to run.
P.S. -What the hell is up with the WiFi indicator on screen? The press release and BlackBerry site certainly make no mention of it.

Gah! This beauty had better be going over to Verizon. Damn lock-ins and family plans... *grumbles*

With WiFi this will never get into Cingular's (at&t's) network. They wanna protect their revenue from voice/data and UMA (Skype etc) is out of question for them.

Unlike the Perl, there is no camera in this model. I guess RIM figures that businesses don't want a camera. I would at least like the option to get an 8800 with a camera. Stereo Bluetooth would have been nice too in either model...

Is that why the wouldn't carry the 8125 and the 8525?

i was just at a cingular/at&t store on 2/10, and a rep there told me that they had an "online briefing" on the 8800, and he told me that they were told the 8800 DID have a camera. i guess we'll have to wait and see...

Could someone tell me why there is no 3G in this phone?
Mac @ Mar 5th 2007 11:01AM
There's no 3G because the two companies most likely to pick it up (Cingular and T-Mobile) don't have 3G networks.

I'm a little confused, I was on Cingular/AT&T and they offer the BlackJack, Palm Treo 750, 8225 and several others and they claim 3G. Is this incorrect? Am I missing something? I don't have anywhere the technical knowledge as most just asking. I would love to have the 8800 with 3G or something in that area.
